Today my youngest Daughter is a whopping 17 months old. She won't hold still for very much of anything, never mind getting a picture of her to mark the occasion! We attempted anyway =)
Kids are always tricky to shoot even with the fastest lenses and the highest ISO's. I swear they have an insane warp drive that until you try an capture one on film, you really can't appreciate! F1 cars, supersonic jets, space shuttles... easy... Little kids? 90% luck!
That first shot is a great edit, absolutely love it, and the expression on the 2nd one is priceless.

I didn't even bother trying. H just runs up and trys to grab the camera now. It's impossible to get a photo or video :(
